Reviving Nostalgia: In's Café by Hsin Ting Weng

Blending French Vintage Aesthetics with Modern Café Culture

The café's design is a testament to Weng's innovative approach, blending the aesthetics of a traditional French brasserie with the concept of an alfresco courtyard café. The café's exterior features a green plant wall and pine fence panels, creating a greenhouse effect. Inside, colonial window grids offer panoramic views, while French and Viennese furniture pieces add a touch of classic elegance.

Weng's design process involved leveling up the original garage slope with vintage herringbone flooring. A greenhouse was built in the front courtyard, extending the retro vibes of the French brasserie into the indoor rooms. The antique brown solid wood kitchen dominates the space, complemented by distressed tin tiles, adding a warm touch of handcrafts.

The café, spread over 75.5 square meters, offers two distinct seating areas. The greenhouse courtyard seats offer a connection to nature with botanic breezes, while the indoor seats, designed in dark color tones, provide higher privacy. The design tags associated with the project include French, garden, greenhouse, café, and courtyard.

Despite challenges such as the rainy season, which delayed the greenhouse construction by over a month, Weng and his team, including Hung Jiun Huang, successfully completed the project. The design required extensive research into the durability of materials for commercial spaces, classic icon details, and ways to provide comfortable greenhouse surroundings during extreme summer sunlight.

In's Café is not just a coffee house; it's a secret garden nestled near hillsides, offering a wave of nostalgia for classics. The café's design has earned it the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding design expertise and innovation. The intellectual property rights for the design are held by Ris Interior Design Co., Ltd.
